- New data for GlaxoSmithKlin e?s vaccine, Cervarix®, presented at IPV Conference: Results from the first, large-scale comparative trial between licensed human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines show that Cervarix® generated a significantly higher immune response compared to Gardasil®. The comparative study looked at two key measures of immune response, neutralising antibodies and memory B cells. Although the post-vaccinati on immune correlates of protection for cervical cancer are still unknown, neutralising antibodies and B cells are believed to play an important role in protecting women from HPV infection and subsequent cervical cancer over the long term.

- Cell-mediated immunity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Cell-mediated immunity is an immune response that does not involve antibodies or complement but rather involves the activation of macrophages, natural killer cells (NK), antigen-specif ic cytotoxic T-lymphocytes, and the release of various cytokines in response to an antigen. Historically, the immune system was separated into two branches: humoral immunity, for which the protective function of immunization could be found in the humor (cell-free bodily fluid or serum) and cellular immunity, for which the protective function of immunization was associated with cells. CD4 cells or helper T cells provide protection against different pathogens.
